Save The Date: Seahawks vs. Cardinals

The Countdown Is On – Game 1 Is In 29 Days – September 9th, 2012
1:25PM PT - University of Phoenix Stadium

For the second Tuesday in a row, Tarvaris Jackson worked with the first offense.  For the second Tuesday in a row, Pete Carroll announced Matt Flynn would start and play the first half of Saturday’s game against Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos.

Russell Wilson will play the second half for the Seahawks.

Observations

Second year guard John Moffitt underwent the elbow surgery today, but should be available by week two or three at the latest.  He was excellent as a run blocker last season, so hopefully he will be healthy this year.

Sidney Rice dawned a white practice jersey today, for the first time this off season.  He’s been wearing a red no-contact jersey coming off of double shoulder surgery.

Although he will not play this weekend, it’s awesome to see the ‘Hawks big money receiver healthy.

Offense

Wide receivers Doug Baldwin and Ricardo Lockette both were back in action today.  Baldwin had hurt his hamstring earlier last week and missed that week of practice and the preseason opener.

Tight End Zach Miller didn’t practice today, after suffering his fourth concussion of his career on Saturday.

Regardless of the severity, four is a lot and the coaching staff is going to be very careful with him.

Center/Guard Lemuel Jeanpierre pulled his groin today in practice while doing work at center.  He filled in admirably for Moffitt last season, so hopefully it’s nothing serious.

Doug Baldwin

Doug Baldwin and Ricardo Lockette both were back in action today.

Defense

Defensive backs Ron Parker and Jeron Johnson didn’t practice today.  Parker is competing for a roster spot in a deep cornerback competition, and Johnson or rookie Winston Guy looks like the likely backup for Earl Thomas.

Linebacker Barrett Ruud returned to practice today as well, after sitting out the past few days with a knee injury.  He is competing for the starting middle linebacker spot with rookie Bobby Wagner.

Quarterback Competition

Pete Carroll still won’t name a starter for the regular season, but he did say “This is where they stand right now” in terms of the depth chart.

With two weeks in a row with the first team, this is all but official that it’s Flynn’s job.

Russell Wilson will get 30-35% of the snaps the rest of the week, with Jackson and Josh Portis taking the rest.

Carroll also noted that Tarvaris Jackson, although frustrated, hasn’t asked for a trade or to be released (yet).

Another week and I believe his tone changes, but Jackson has been nothing but professional in all his time in Seattle.

What They’re Saying

Pete Carroll on Doug Baldwin and Ricardo Lockette returning to practice and on rookie Bobby Wagner. “Great to see Baldwin and Lockette back. Good job healing them. Went full speed, looked good.”

“Wagner has a chance to be the starter. We had all hoped for that.”

LeRoy Hill on the Seattle defense, ”We have all the tools to have a crazy dominate defense. We have the pieces, the swagger.”

Since I haven’t been giving much special team love this offseason, I’ll leave you with this:
